Working parents in Saudi Arabia, and around the globe, struggle to manage the pick-up and drop-off routines for their school-age kids; especially when time conflicts arise with their working hours. How can design create safe, effective transportation solutions for both parents and children with conflicting schedules?

This project aims to explore these very real challenges and provide parents with the necessary tools to care for their children and their professional roles more effectively.

Introducing KiddieHop; a commuting app for kids (Fig. 1). Assigned drivers transport children to and from school in KiddieHop vehicles ensuring safe and reliable transportation to and from school while empowering parents to maintain their professional roles.

Parents and kids work together to select their preferred drivers based on available profile information. Each driver approved on the app has gone through an international background check and identity verification. KiddieHop also prioritizes female Saudis as part-time drivers, catering to existing and evolving Saudi Arabian cultural norms and parental preferences for female transports for their kids. Once a driver is selected, parents and children have the opportunity to meet with their driver in-person or online, before trips start. Each driver can commit to a family from one week to three months.

KiddieHop vehicles will be branded (Fig. 2), and contain ride tracking and live-camera features (Fig. 3). These features are designed to support the safety of the child and the trust of the parents, allowing parents access to everything happening inside the car during each ride.

The app also facilitates smooth communication between schools and parents through the KiddieHop platform, linking the commuting app with a dedicated school platform. Teachers will be able to confirm the drop-off, pick-up, and driver of each kid daily.

KiddieHop ensures safe and reliable school transportation, by prioritizing kids’ safety and giving working parents the support they need.
