PROJECT LEMONADE
BRENDA SON
Many Gen Z digital natives are struggling with digital clutter, paralyzed by overwhelming piles of files. How might we help digital natives organize their digital clutter in order to manage their cognitive load and feel more productive?
Project Lemonade is an exploration designed to transform organizing overwhelming piles of digital clutter into refreshing experiences. At its core, Project Lemonade explores the intricate, evolving dynamics between Gen Z and digital workspaces.
Despite a new generation of digital natives establishing their own patterns of using technology, the relationship between users and files has not evolved. The value of files has, instead, become inflated. Many people in Gen Z accumulate photos, screenshots, downloads, and more in excess without a second thought while harboring a reflexive reluctance to delete anything in fear of losing information. Project Lemonade dives into the heart of interaction design by focusing on our behavior towards digital hoarding as raw material.
Project Lemonade is comprised of three main components; an AI-powered mobile app that helps users take control of their screenshots, a toolkit for tackling digital clutter in personal workspaces, and a set of physical artifacts designed to promote a shared understanding of digital cleanliness and social engagement through playful interactions.
Within each component, Project Lemonade proposes a new lens through which to examine how our digital clutter contains information about our interests, patterns, and lives as a powerful creative data tool.
